Resource Connections is an initiative that began with a group of local nonprofits who were meeting in Brown Bag lunches with Bremer. They wanted to find ways to better connect more nonprofits, to share resources and information, and to let the public know about nonprofit services.
A Nonprofit Summit was held in September of 2009 with over 30 nonprofits in attendance. Two goals emerged from the Summit 1. A Nonprofit Expo and 2. Communications goal to develop a website and directory for local organizations to recruit volunteers and help with fundraising efforts. The first Expo was held in 2010 with almost 60 Nonprofits participating. The 2nd Expo was held Feb. 17th, 2011 at the National Guard Armory. This website is a result of the 2nd goal.
Startup funding for this website and expo projects was provided by: West Central Initiative, Blandin, Bremer Bank and Runestone Electric. Funding for the five Stevens County wireless hotspots project was made possible by a grant through the Stevns County Economic Improvement Commission (SCEIC) and the Blandin Foundation Minnesota Intelligent Rural Communities (MIRC)project which was funded in large part by an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant.
